Bethesda patches Starfield Update 1.16.242 with 1.8 GB fixes
Bethesda pushed a starfield update on May 14, 2026. Patch 1.16.242 reached PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, with the console build labeled Starfield update 1.000.005. The download was 1.8 GB on PS5, 6 GB on Xbox Series X|S, and 1.6 GB on PC.
The size matters because this was not just a storefront tweak. The patch targeted crashes, stability issues, gameplay behavior, quest progression, and interface bugs in one release.
Creations and autosaves
One crash could happen while viewing Creations. Another could appear when making an autosave. A third crash could happen when Creations contained legacy data, which points to older content carrying forward into the current build without always behaving cleanly.
Players who spend time browsing community content or leaning on autosave now have fewer obvious failure points in those routines. The update also fixed a crash that could occur when removing certain types of items in Outpost mode.
Quest and gameplay changes
The patch addressed a bug that caused Muria to consume ammo. It also adjusted Plasma Cutter so some unintended legendary effects would not appear.
Those are the kind of fixes players feel in moment-to-moment play rather than in a settings menu. Bethesda also increased the frequency of Colony War Action Heroes, and it fixed Into the Void so the quest could start as intended.
UI, EULA, and save space
Starfield update 1.16.242 also changed the message shown when save game space is full. It fixed crafting mods that could display incorrectly in the workbench UI. It also resolved an issue that could make the EULA display incorrectly.
The practical read is simple for players on any platform: install the patch if you want the crash fixes, the quest fixes, and the UI corrections in the same build. The remaining question is whether Bethesda will follow this smaller update with a larger gameplay pass, because this release focused on repairs rather than new systems.
