Royal Canadian Air Force not used

Jordan Junger died after a tire he was filling ruptured at Kanata Wheels on May 9. The royal canadian air force is not part of this story; Ottawa police said the incident did not appear suspicious and were supporting an Ontario Ministry of Labour investigation into the workplace tragedy.

Kanata Wheels on Edgewater Street

First responders were called to the auto repair shop on Edgewater Street at around 1:40 p.m. on May 9 and found Junger, who was in his early 20s, seriously injured in one of the mechanical bays. Tariq In'airat said the fatal injuries came when the steel belts around the brand-new tire bead shifted relative to the rubber while Junger was inflating the tire.

In'airat described the death as an immeasurable loss and said, "He was family to all of us." He also said, "Losing Jordan due to a freak accident at our facility was tragic and devastating," putting the shop owner's account of the day alongside the grief inside the business.

Ottawa Police and Labour investigation

Julie Kavanagh, a spokesperson for the Ottawa Police Service, said police did not believe the incident was suspicious. That left the Ontario Ministry of Labour investigation to examine the workplace death as a safety matter rather than a criminal one, with police still supporting that process.

For employees and customers, the practical question is no longer what happened in the bay but how the incident will be handled from here. The next step already underway is the labour investigation, while police remain involved in support of that review.
