Dan Wilson Ejected as Padres - Mariners Ends 7-4
The Padres - Mariners game ended with San Diego ahead 7-4 in Seattle, and Dan Wilson was ejected during the early innings after pointing strongly at the field. Seattle had chances late, but the Mariners could not turn contact, defense, and a ninth-inning push into enough runs.
Gilbert Opens Cleanly
Logan Gilbert came out sharp in the first inning, and the Mariners opened with a 1-2-3 frame on a blustery afternoon with the roof closed. That early control did not last. Gavin Sheets broke through in the second inning with a solo home run, giving the Padres the first clear swing of the game.
Wilson Gets Tossed
Wilson was tossed in the early innings after pointing strongly at the field, and the exchange escalated to the point that he was heard yelling, “Bleep you, you bleeping, bleeper from bleep.” Seattle still kept playing, but the ejection added heat to a game the Mariners were already chasing.
J.P. Crawford later answered with a home run in the fifth inning, giving Seattle a lift that kept the game within reach. The Mariners also got work from Emerson Hancock, who pitched well again but got no support again, and that left the offense trying to make up ground against a Padres lineup that kept adding pressure.
Pereda and Rivas Hold
Seattle’s defense tried to keep the door open in the eighth. Jhonny Pereda threw out Fernando Tatís Jr. stealing second, and Leo Rivas made an unbelievable leaping grab on a line drive from Manny Machado. Those plays mattered because the Mariners were still within striking distance, but they also had to be followed by runs.
The ninth inning brought another burst of activity. Pereda cut down Miguel Andujar attempting to steal second, and Rodolfo Durán then clubbed what looked to be his second home run of the game. Seattle had the tying run to the plate with two on and one out, but the inning finished with a fielder’s choice and a groundout, and the Padres left with the 7-4 win.
Seattle Leaves It There
The result fit a pattern Seattle did not want to extend in a series where the club has talked about the 2026 Vedder Cup being decided this weekend. The Mariners put seven runs worth of pressure on the game in different moments, but the late sequence still ended with the tying chance gone and the loss in the books.
