Anko Walkie Talkie Recall Targets 467.425 MHz Frequency Issue

The anko walkie talkie recall hits a consumer product sold through Kmart and Target after the Australian Communications and Media Authority found it had been programmed with radio frequencies that require a licence in Australia. ACMA said people should stop using the walkie-talkies immediately and return them for a full refund.

467.425 MHz and 500 metres

The recalled item was a pack of two long-range walkie-talkies with a talking range of up to 500 metres. That range and the licensing problem now sit together in the same product, because ACMA said using it in its current state may interfere with other licenced services operating on the 467.425 MHz band and cause unintended disruption.

Kmart and Target sales

The walkie-talkies were sold online and in Kmart and Target stores across the country from September to February, and ACMA said the item had been on sale as recently as early February. For shoppers who bought them during that stretch, the immediate change is simple: stop using the device and take it back to a local Kmart or Target for a refund.

ACMA recall and refunds

ACMA said the item needs to be recalled, and it warned that unlicenced use of the walkie talkie may contravene the Radiocommunications Act 1992. Kmart Australia can be reached on 1800 124 125 from Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm AEST, and Target can be reached on 1300 753 567 during the same hours.

The unresolved issue is how many packs were in circulation before the recall reached customers, but the practical step for anyone who owns one is already clear: stop using it and seek the refund.
