Police Appeal After Battersea Bridge Assault — For Life
Police are appealing for witnesses after a 64-year-old Transport for London bus driver was seriously assaulted on Battersea Bridge and remains in a critical condition, for life. Officers were called at 00.33hrs on Monday, 18 May 2026, and later arrested a 32-year-old man on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.
Emergency first aid was given at the scene before London’s Air Ambulance took the driver to hospital. The arrested man remains in custody as detectives work to establish what happened on the bridge and the pavement beside the bus stop.
Fiona Van Kampen appeal
Detective Superintendent Fiona Van Kampen of the Met's South West Borough Command Unit said police are working to establish the exact circumstances of the attack. “We recognise the intense concern this will cause within the local community, and are working to establish the exact circumstances of the attack.”
She added: “This took place on one of London's busiest bridges, so we are urgently appealing for anyone with information to come forward.” Police believe the assault followed a confrontation on the pavement by the bus while it was stationary at a bus stop.
Battersea Bridge footage
Investigators are asking for dashcam or mobile phone footage of what happened. Van Kampen said: “If you have dashcam or mobile phone footage of what happened, it is important that we see it.”
