Bain Fire burns seven acres in Jurupa Valley river bottom

The bain fire burned roughly seven acres Tuesday in the Santa Ana River bottom in Jurupa Valley after it was reported at 11:22 a.m. Crews reached the north side of the dry channel near Bain Street and Limonite Avenue, just north of the Hidden Valley Nature Center.

Multiple engine and hand crews from the county and Riverside Fire Department were sent to the scene and found flames moving at a moderate rate through thick brush. The fire was non-injury, and no homes or other structures were immediately threatened.

Riverside Fire Department response

Two Cal Fire air tankers and two water-dropping helicopters were summoned, though as of 11:45 a.m. none had begun runs. The fire’s potential growth, if unchecked, was gauged at 50 acres.

The burn area sits in a dry channel with homeless encampments, debris and cooking and warming fires that occur year-round. That made the response in Jurupa Valley a quick containment problem rather than a structure defense problem, with the cause still not known.
