Bass Leads 29% in La Mayor Race Polls Among Latino Voters
Karen Bass led Latino voters in the la mayor race polls with 29% support in a UC Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies survey co-sponsored by The Times. Spencer Pratt followed with 16%, while Rae Huang had 14%, Nithya Raman 9% and Adam Miller 3%.
Latinos make up nearly 37% of the Los Angeles electorate, and Fernando Guerra said, "Whoever wins the Latino vote will win the election." The poll gives Bass a clear edge in a bloc that can decide the June 2 primary.
Karen Bass and Latino Voters
The new survey follows a UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs poll in April that also found Bass with a wide lead. Matt Barreto said, "I think she has an opportunity to solidify the Latino vote with a strong primary performance," and added, "This is hers for the taking."
Bass has already worked that field. In March, she launched Latinos con Bass in Lincoln Park, a campaign effort aimed at Latino voters as candidates compete for support across Los Angeles.
Boyle Heights Campaign Pitch
Raman also has been pressing that audience directly. On a Friday night in Boyle Heights, she appeared at Distrito Catorce bar to pitch her campaign for mayor, where Albert Orozco said, "We need a mayor who can communicate directly with the Spanish-speaking community."
The competition for Latino support comes with a recent warning from the city’s own voting history. In the 2022 mayoral election, Latinos made up 35% of the electorate but less than a quarter of the turnout.
June 2 Primary Math
That gap is why the polling numbers matter beyond the headline. The field still includes Bass, Pratt, Huang, Raman and Miller, but the survey shows Bass ahead by double digits over her nearest challenger among Latino voters.
The practical question for campaigns is simple: which candidate can convert the largest share of Latino voters into ballots by June 2. Bass enters that phase with the clearest advantage, while the others are still trying to narrow a lead that has now appeared in two different polls.
