Molly and Andrew eye £20,000 as Race Across The World Final nears
In the race across the world final, Molly says the journey has turned her and Andrew from father and daughter into “very much, a team.” The sixth series ends on Thursday 21 May, with the first pair across the finish line in Hatgal set to take home £20,000.
The finalists have covered more than 11,000km through Europe and Asia, from Palermo to northern Mongolia. At the point they spoke ahead of the final, 950km still separated the teams from the finish.
Molly and Andrew in Mongolia
Andrew said reaching Mongolia was the highlight of the race for him, adding: “Getting to Mongolia was the highlight for me.” He also said: “I’ve always wanted to go to Mongolia and I’ve always dreamt of Mongolia as a young fella.”
Molly put a finer point on the emotional shift in their partnership: “Our relationship has changed from father and daughter to very much, a team.” That is the real competitive change here. Once the race moved from sightseeing to constant calculation, the pair had to decide when to push and when to pause.
Home stays and hard calls
Molly said the last two home stays stood out because “they were just amazing.” She described them as proper “Race Across The World moments with families,” a reminder that the series still rewards the teams that can connect with strangers as much as they can navigate a route.
She also said the race could feel “deflating and upsetting because the only thought was how to get out of beautiful places.” Andrew echoed that pressure, saying: “It was that constant pressure of having to make decisions and kind of missing out because you had to keep racing.”
Hatgal and the £20,000 prize
Andrew and Molly said they settled on a practical approach: “We’re going into the last leg knowing that we have thoroughly enjoyed the first seven, and we are willing to do whatever we need to.” That is the clearest reading of the final. The race is no longer about how far they have travelled, but whether they can convert that partnership into the first crossing at Hatgal.
For viewers, Thursday 21 May at 8pm is the decision point. The final on iPlayer and One will end the 11,000km route and name the team that takes the £20,000 prize.
