BYD Launches Atto 3 Flash Charging Update With 630 km Range

BYD’s atto 3 flash charging update arrived on May 21 when the company launched the third-generation Yuan Plus in China. The overseas name is Atto 3. The new model pairs Flash Charging with up to 630 km of range.

That top version uses a 68.5 kWh battery pack and is rated for 391 miles on the CLTC cycle. The entry version uses a 57.5 kWh pack with up to 540 km, or 335 miles. Buyers in China start at 119,900 yuan, or $17,600.

Flash Charging on the Yuan Plus

BYD says every version gets its Flash Charging technology. The system can take the battery from 10% to 70% in about five minutes. A charge from 10% to 97% takes 9 minutes.

The company also says the battery needs only 3 minutes longer to move from 20% to 97% at -30°C. That is the part most owners will read twice, because cold weather is where fast-charge claims usually get brittle. Here, BYD is putting the number on the table before the car leaves China.

Atto 3 for Europe

The Yuan Plus is one of BYD’s most popular electric vehicles. It was the 13th-best-selling EV globally in 2025 with nearly 224,000 deliveries. That makes the model a useful test case for whether BYD can spread the charging system beyond its higher-end cars.

BYD says the new tech will be introduced in Europe, the UK, and other global markets later this year. The Atto 3 is expected to receive similar upgrades, which puts the practical question on the table for current and prospective buyers outside China: how soon the five-minute charging claim becomes available where they live.
