Health Canada Orders Secura Air Fryer Recall of 680 Units
Health Canada issued an air fryer recall on Friday for certain Secura units sold in Canada after warning that a wire connection can overheat and create fire and burn hazards. The notice covers 680 air fryers sold nationwide between May 2019 and October 2020, and Canadians who have one are told to stop using it immediately.
Secura Inc. said the recall is “a precautionary measure.” Canadians affected by the recall can choose a free replacement or an Amazon gift card code, but they must send contact information and photos of the recalled unit with the power cord cut off.
Secura SAF-53 units
The recall applies to Secura air fryers with model number SAF-53 (TXG-DS16) and date codes 1903 and 1904. The model number and four-digit date code are printed on silver labels at the bottom of each unit. The air fryers measure about 30 cm high, 28 cm deep and 30 cm wide.
Health Canada described the hazard as “posing fire and burn hazards.” Secura Inc. said the recall is “a precautionary measure.” As of May 16, the company had not received any reports of incidents or injuries in Canada or the U.S. involving the affected product.
Canada and U.S. sales
The recalled air fryers were manufactured by Tianxi Holding Group Co., Ltd. in China and imported by Secura Inc. About 6,400 affected units were sold in the U.S., while 680 were sold across Canada. That leaves Canadian buyers with a specific choice: remove the product from use and seek the replacement or credit offered by the company.
Secura told consumers to provide contact information and submit photos of the recalled unit with the power cord cut off, along with the product date code from the bottom of the appliance. The company’s recall line is 888-792-2360.
