35c Temperature In London Record Set at Kew Gardens

London’s 35c temperature in london record fell on Tuesday when 35.1C was recorded at Kew Gardens, setting a new May high for the city. The reading came after two record-breaking May temperatures for the UK were logged in London this week. Cooler air was expected to move into northern and eastern England on Wednesday.

Kew Gardens Record

The 35.1C reading at Kew Gardens marked the hottest May temperature ever recorded in London, and temperatures exceeded 34C in south-east England for a second day in a row. Ed Hawkins, a professor of climate science at the University of Reading, told the that the heatwave “stands out”.

Nearly all weather stations across England and Wales broke their local temperature records for May on Monday and Tuesday, showing how far the heat spread beyond the capital. Temperatures across many parts of the UK were ranging from 10 to 15 degrees above normal.

Heat Health Alerts

Six amber heat health alerts were issued across south-west England, the West Midlands, East Midlands, east of England, south east and London regions. London and south-east England were expected to reach temperatures up to 27C on Wednesday, but temperatures needed to be 28C to officially continue the heatwave in London and south-east England.

By Thursday, temperatures were expected to increase again, with 30C back on the cards. Cooler weather was expected to gradually come in again from Friday and into the weekend, after the brief drop in temperature midweek.
