Mitsubishi Pajero Returns With 2027 Debut, December Deliveries

Mitsubishi has officially confirmed the mitsubishi pajero will return, with the new 2027 model due to make its global debut in the third quarter of 2026. First deliveries are expected to begin in December 2026, with Australian showrooms set to receive it before Christmas.

The timing gives buyers a clear window: pre-orders are due to open shortly after the global debut, and diesel power is expected to lead the launch. A camouflaged prototype was spotted in Melbourne’s CBD in March, adding an early public sighting to the rollout already set for later in 2026.

Triton platform and diesel

The new Pajero is understood to ride on the same ladder-frame platform as the current Triton ute and is understood to be built in Thailand. It is almost certain to carry over the Triton’s 2.4-litre twin-turbo-diesel engine and SuperSelect II full-time 4x4 system.

Dealer sources suggest the Pajero could use an eight-speed automatic transmission instead of the Triton’s six-speed automatic. Combined fuel consumption is expected to be around 8.0L/100km, while towing capacity is expected to reach 3500kg braked and water wading depth is expected to be around 800mm.

Ford Everest and Prado

The Pajero will line up directly against the Ford Everest and Toyota Prado in Australia. That places it in a large SUV segment where Mitsubishi is also considering both sharper pricing and a more premium positioning, while rising new-car prices may create room for a well-priced, well-equipped entrant.

Mitsubishi’s 10-year warranty could also be part of the Pajero’s appeal. Hybrid powertrains are understood to be in development for the model, but diesel is expected to lead the launch, leaving the first delivery phase focused on the specification buyers will see before Christmas.

December 2026 deliveries

For buyers waiting on the return of the nameplate, the practical timeline now runs from the third-quarter debut to pre-orders soon after and deliveries in December 2026. The clearest next step is the global reveal, because that is when Mitsubishi should lock in the details that determine final ordering and showroom timing.
