Pam Bondi Health: Thyroid Cancer Diagnosis Follows Surgery, Work Continues
Pam Bondi health became public after she said she has been diagnosed with thyroid cancer and is undergoing treatment. The 60-year-old former US attorney general said she had surgery a few weeks ago and is continuing to work while she recovers.
Bondi’s diagnosis lands as she takes on a new role on the White House’s advisory council on AI. Vice-President JD Vance said she remains involved in “confronting some of the most important issues the administration faces,” while she is also scheduled to testify before the House Oversight Committee on Friday.

Trump established the Presidential Council of Advisors on Science and Technology by executive order in January 2025, saying it would “unite the brightest minds from academia, industry, and government to guide our Nation through this critical moment by charting a path forward for American leadership in science and technology.” The first members were not announced until March 2026, and Bondi is among them.
The council includes Sergey Brin, Mark Zuckerberg, Larry Ellison and Jensen Huang. Bondi’s inclusion is the first public sign of her work beyond the Justice Department after she left at the beginning of April.
Katie Miller on Bondi
Katie Miller posted on social media that “Pam has been quietly kicking cancer's ass the last few weeks” and said she “has a heart of gold.” The remarks added a personal note to a diagnosis that Bondi has chosen to discuss while still staying on the job.
Thyroid cancer has a five-year survival rate of over 98%, and most forms are treatable and permanently curable, according to the Cleveland Clinic. Bondi has not said what stage of cancer she has, but she has made clear that treatment has not taken her out of public work.
Bondi After DOJ
Bondi is one of four members of Trump’s cabinet to have left their positions so far this year. Kristi Noem was removed as secretary of Homeland Security before Bondi’s departure, and Lori Chavez-DeRemer was removed as labour secretary before Bondi left her post.
Tulsi Gabbard said last week that she was resigning as director of national intelligence, citing her husband’s recent bone cancer diagnosis. That leaves Bondi’s health disclosure tied to a wider run of personnel changes around Trump’s team, even as she remains in place for the next round of hearings and advisory work.
