Keelan White scores twice in Ottawa Redblacks 27-12 win

Keelan White scored twice and the ottawa redblacks beat the Montreal Alouettes 27-12 on Friday at Percival Molson Memorial Stadium. The preseason win came with Ottawa’s offense producing touchdowns through the air, on the ground and on field goals, a useful start before the games start carrying regular-season weight.

White Gives Ottawa the Edge

White’s two touchdowns came in the first half, on throws of 12 yards and four yards from Jake Maier. Ottawa turned those drives into a 17-4 halftime lead and never gave it back.

Maier finished 10 of 14 for 155 yards. Bryson Barnes added a nine-yard rushing touchdown, and Paul Geelen handled the kicking with field goals from 40 and 26 yards.

Redblacks Spread the Scoring

Cade McDonald added four catches for 73 yards, giving Ottawa another receiving target in a game where the ball kept moving. Barnes was even more efficient through the air, completing all eight of his passes for 109 yards while also scoring on the ground.

That mix gave Ottawa scoring from both quarterbacks and its kicker, plus two touchdowns from White. For a preseason game, that kind of distribution is the useful part: the Redblacks did not need one drive or one player to carry the night.

Montreal’s Late Push Falls Short

Montreal got on the board with Jose Carlos Maltos’ 21-yard field goal in the first half, then Shomari Lawrence added a two-yard rushing touchdown late in the fourth quarter. Dustin Crum completed 15 of 20 passes for 130 yards, but the Alouettes were chasing the game after Ottawa’s first-half burst.

Maltos also missed a 52-yard field-goal attempt, leaving Montreal without the extra points it needed to trim the gap. Saturday’s CFL preseason schedule moved on with Saskatchewan hosting Winnipeg, Edmonton visiting B.C., and Hamilton hosting Toronto.
