Samsung One Ui 8.5 Update Rolls Out May 6, Expands May 11

Samsung's samsung one ui 8.5 update started rolling out on May 6. Global releases followed on May 11 for most devices. That puts the update in front of a wider slice of Galaxy owners, including phones that are no longer current flagships.

Galaxy S26 gets first access

The Galaxy S26, S26+, and S26 Ultra were first available with One UI 8.5. Samsung also had the Galaxy S25 Ultra already downloaded and installed, which shows the software did not stay limited to launch-day hardware.

One UI 8.5 is a major software update for Samsung's smartphones. It adds more accessible family sharing, enhanced device security measures, and generative AI tools. For users, that means the rollout is not just a cosmetic refresh.

Galaxy S23 and older support

The update brings Galaxy S26 features to older phones. New call screening works on devices as far back as the Galaxy S23, and the phone's AI assistant can take calls from unknown numbers, ask what they want, and transcribe the call into an easy-access summary.

That support reaches back to phones first available in 2023, including the Galaxy S23 and Z Fold 5 series. Samsung later introduced a seven-year update policy with the Galaxy S24 launch, which makes the newer policy relevant to how long Galaxy owners may expect fresh software to keep arriving.

Galaxy S22 faces a split

Samsung's Galaxy S22, including the S22+ and S22 Ultra, may or may not get One UI 8.5. The same uncertainty applies to the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4, both launched in 2022.

Samsung Members App can be used to double check compatibility, and some devices may get the update later than others. Owners of older Galaxy phones now have the clearest next step: check whether their model is on the compatibility list before expecting the new AI calls and security changes to arrive.
