Cariboo Regional District issues alert for 22 parcels near Swede Creek Bc
The Cariboo Regional District issued an evacuation alert for 22 parcels near Comstock Lake as swede creek bc burned southwest of Prince George. The alert covers nearly 180 square kilometres and was issued so residents can prepare if they are ordered to leave.
Comstock Lake Alert Area
Comstock Lake sits about 100 kilometres southwest of Prince George. The alert area is tied to the Swede Creek Wildfire, which the BC Wildfire Service said was discovered on Monday.
By Tuesday afternoon, the wildfire had grown to about 13 square kilometres and was burning out of control. The district’s alert gives people in the area time to get ready before any evacuation order is issued.
Swede Creek Wildfire Status
The blaze is one of about 17 active fires in the province and one of two burning out of control. The cause is under investigation, according to the BC Wildfire Service.
That combination leaves residents with a narrow margin: the alert is precautionary, but the fire’s status means the district has already moved to protect the 22 parcels inside the affected area. Anyone living there now has to treat the alert as the first step, not the last one.
