Tuchel Sets England Game Rotation for New Zealand Warm-Up

Thomas Tuchel will use the england game against New Zealand to split his squad into two different teams, with every player set for 45 minutes on Saturday. The England manager is still deciding his starting XI, but he has already laid out a clear load plan for a match meant to sharpen the group before the World Cup.

Tuchel's 45-minute plan

Tuchel said the friendly will not be treated as a normal selection test. “Everyone will be 45 so that gives us the continuation of the week. Some of them need a load, some of them need a recovery. We give 45 to everyone,” he said. That means the New Zealand game is being used to spread minutes across the squad instead of building around one settled side.

England will play New Zealand on Saturday, and Tuchel has yet to settle on the lineup that will start. He said he will field two different teams for each half, a sign that the match is more about managing bodies and learning combinations than about staying with one group for long stretches.

Kane stays in top shape

Harry Kane remains central to that plan. Tuchel said the captain has scored 61 goals across all competitions this season and described him as ready to go. “He's in top shape. He is ready to go. We don't have to be worried about him at all, even if it is hot in June. He has showed me the whole week that he is ready. He is our key player,” Tuchel said.

He added that Kane is comfortable with the intensity England wants to bring. “He is so used to the high press from Bayern Munich and the intensive game that they play in the opponents' half. He is leading by example. I think he is in the best shape,” Tuchel said. The manager also said, “We will try to keep Harry fit and play him as much as possible but hopefully we will have the chance to not need to play him every match 90 or 120 minutes. We will hopefully have the chance for players to step in but that counts for everyone.”

Florida's pitch and weather

The setting has brought its own complications. Tuchel said the pitch is an American football pitch and said, “We have a green keeper who takes care of the pitch and I hope it will be alright. It is an American football pitch. I can see that. Hopefully it will be fine. We are told it is okay.”

He also said Florida has not delivered the heat people might expect. “It has not been sunny and hot. This is the first day we've seen the sun and blue sky - it's been like England! We were joking in the last few days,” he said. Tuchel added that the warm, humid conditions have helped training by allowing more breaks and more detail work.

Arsenal's players are set to link up on Friday evening but will not be present at the match, leaving Tuchel with a squad built around rotation rather than continuity. He said the group had a first emotional meeting, followed by a run of football meetings and detail work, as England keeps moving toward the tournament with minutes, fitness and selection still being managed one step at a time.
