Braden Montgomery Joins White Sox After Strong Minors Run
The White Sox are calling up braden montgomery, a 23-year-old outfield prospect who ranked 33rd on Baseball America’s top-100 list. Chicago has to clear space on both the 26-man roster and the 40-man roster to make the move work.
Montgomery’s 2026 surge
Montgomery reached the majors after splitting the 2026 season between Double-A and Triple-A, where he appeared in 56 games and took 258 plate appearances. He hit.314/.422/.548 with a 152 wRC+, numbers that put him among the most productive hitters in the system.
That line came with 10 home runs, 13 doubles and three triples. He also stole five bases, was caught in 11 attempts, and posted a 15.1% walk rate against a 24.8% strikeout rate.
From Texas A&M to Chicago
The White Sox acquired Montgomery as part of the blockbuster trade that sent Garrett Crochet to Boston, with Kyle Teel also going to Chicago as the co-headliner. Boston had selected Montgomery No. 12 overall out of Texas A&M in 2024 before he changed organizations.
Matt Snyder of CBS Sports first reported the call-up, and Chicago now has to finish the roster moves needed to activate him. For the White Sox, the decision brings a high-end bat into the organization’s immediate plans after a season in which Montgomery kept producing at every minor league stop.
