DiJonai Carrington Still Awaiting Return for Dream Vs Sky
DiJonai Carrington still has not made her Chicago debut in dream vs sky, and the Sky have not given her a return date. She had ankle surgery last October and hardware removed from the area in mid-April, leaving her recovery as one of the team’s clearest roster questions.
Tyler Marsh on Carrington
Tyler Marsh said, "We shouldn’t believe everything that we see and read," and added, "We are committed to the timeline that has been established. [Carrington] is progressing well, into on-court activities … We’re looking forward to getting her back." That is the most direct update Chicago has given since she signed in April.
April 15 matters as a reference point. Hardware removal can take 6 to 12 weeks before a player returns to high-impact activities, and 12 weeks from that date would fall on July 8, 2026. Earlier this month, Julia Poe wrote that Carrington might not be back until after the FIBA World Cup break from Aug. 31 to Sept. 16.
Chicago Sky Roster Pressure
The timing hits a Sky team that was 4-7 and had lost six of its last seven games. Carrington has not played a minute for Chicago since signing in April, so every step in her rehab affects the club’s available guard rotation while the season keeps moving.
There is also a larger roster context around why her absence carries weight. Carrington was the WNBA Most Improved Player in 2024 and made the WNBA All-Defensive First Team that same year, so Chicago brought in a player with a recent track record on both ends before the ankle work delayed her debut.
Chicago’s Waiting Game
The Sky opened the season at +5500 to win the 2026 WNBA title and were listed at +20000 at Fanatics Sportsbook, numbers that already suggested a long shot. Carrington’s return would not solve everything, but it would finally give Chicago the player it signed in April rather than a spot on the sideline.
