Jack Bowes Late Withdrawal Alters Geelong Vs Gold Coast Lineup
Geelong changed its side an hour before geelong vs gold coast, withdrawing Jack Bowes because of hamstring tightness and bringing in George Stevens. The late switch came on Friday night at GMHBA Stadium, where Geelong was trying to halt a run of narrow losses.
Jack Bowes Out, Stevens In
Bowes had been named for the Friday night clash before being pulled from the selected side close to the 7.40pm AEST start. Stevens replaced him and entered the match for just his third AFL game and first of the season.
The change gave Geelong a different look immediately before a home game that already carried pressure after a one-point loss to Adelaide. Geelong had lost back-to-back games by narrow margins and had been beaten by under a goal three times this season.
Geelong's Home Record
The venue added another layer. Geelong had won its previous nine matches at GMHBA Stadium by an average of 45 points, and it had never lost to Gold Coast in nine meetings there.
That history sat beside Geelong's 8-5 record and Gold Coast's 7-5 mark entering the match. The Suns had slipped out of the top six after a second straight defeat, while Geelong was trying to steady itself after a stretch of close finishes that had gone against it.
Gold Coast's Four Changes
Gold Coast also arrived with a changed side, making four moves for the trip. Charlie Ballard, Zeke Uwland, Ben Jepson and Sam Clohesy came in for Wil Powell, Will Graham, Lachie Weller and Jarrod Witts.
Geelong also regained Lawson Humphries and recalled Mitch Edwards, while Tom Stewart was out injured and Gryan Miers was managed. For the Cats, the late Bowes change mattered most because it arrived within the final hour and forced Stevens into a much bigger role than his experience suggested.
