Police seek witnesses after Filey A165 crash closes road four hours

Two cars crashed on the A165 at the entrance to Primrose Valley Holiday Park near filey at about 10.38am on Sunday 7 June, and the occupants were taken to hospital for treatment. The road stayed shut for approximately four hours while North Yorkshire Police dealt with the scene.

North Yorkshire Police said a white Hyundai i10 and a grey Peugeot 5008 collided near the holiday park entrance. The closure affected traffic through the stretch by the park while officers investigated, arranged for the vehicles to be recovered, and treated the road for spillages.

The crash happened at one of the better-known access points on the A165 near Filey, where turning traffic can mix with through traffic at the park entrance. For drivers using that route, the police response meant the road could not reopen until the scene had been examined and the vehicles removed.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said, "The occupants involved were taken to hospital for treatment." The same spokesperson said, "The road was closed for approximately four hours while we investigated the scene, to allow the vehicles involved to be recovered and to treat the road for spillages."

North Yorkshire Police appeal

Police are now asking for witnesses to come forward, along with anyone who saw either vehicle before the collision or anyone with dashcam footage. That appeal points to the main gap left by the crash report: how the two cars came to collide at the entrance to the holiday park.

"We’re appealing for any witnesses to the collision, anyone who may have seen the vehicles prior to the collision, or anyone with relevant dashcam footage, to contact us," the spokesperson said. Anyone with information can help fill in the moments before 10.38am, when the white Hyundai i10 and grey Peugeot 5008 hit each other and forced the A165 to close.
