Ryan Carr Backs Castleford's Five-Win Push in Dragons Vs Tigers

Castleford’s dragons vs tigers trip to the south of France comes with Ryan Carr urging a cleaner second half after five wins at the halfway stage. The Tigers coach said the team has no excuses left after a disrupted start and wants the group to turn recent continuity into better results.

Carr’s first year in charge has been hit by injuries to key players, with Blake Taaffe ruled out for the season after an ACL injury on his debut in February. Liam Hood, Semi Valemei, Fletcher Rooney and Alex Mellor have also spent time on the sidelines, leaving Castleford short of stability while Carr tried to piece together combinations.

That disruption has eased enough for a different picture to emerge. Castleford came into the Catalans Dragons match on the back of two wins from their last three games, including an upset home win over St Helens, and Carr said the group now looks more settled than it did earlier in the season.

Five Wins At Halfway

“It’s hard to gauge, we’ve had so much change to the team in such a short period of time through injury and suspension,” Carr said. “We’re starting to get a bit of continuity, so the last couple of months has been the team we want to be and who we’ve been working towards being - now it’s important to make sure we improve.”

Castleford had five wins at the halfway stage of the season, and Carr said the club’s excuse of being a new team no longer holds. “The excuse of being a new team and all that sort of stuff is gone now, there’s no excuses and we just need to continue to improve and be consistent at what we can control,” he said.

He also pointed to the mood inside the squad as the strongest sign that the team is moving in the right direction. “The boys have got a really good mindset at the moment, the last month has probably been the best month of the season so far,” Carr said. “They’re enjoying playing together, there’s a really good vibe and they’re really hungry to play well, which is what they have to be.”

Castleford headed to the south of France with that run behind them, and Carr said the group was ready for the challenge in front of them. “We’re prepared mentally for what’s coming, and we’ve got to go out and execute our job on game day,” he said.
