Derek Mcinnes Rangers Manager Set for Three-Year Ibrox Deal

Derek McInnes Rangers manager is set to become the new Rangers boss after agreeing a deal in principle to leave Hearts and sign a three-year deal at Ibrox. Rangers have moved quickly to replace Danny Röhl before pre-season training next week, and the change puts the summer rebuild under a new head coach.

McInnes and Ibrox

McInnes, 54, guided Hearts to a second-place finish in the Scottish Premiership last season and now returns to a club he once played for. He had knocked back the chance to manage Rangers in 2017, but this time the move is lined up as the club looks to reset after Röhl’s brief spell in charge.

Rangers chairman Andrew Cavenagh and CEO Jim Gillespie moved swiftly while in the US to get the deal moving. The club have already started a club-led summer rebuild, with staff working with the coaching team to add to the squad.

Röhl Leaves Ibrox

Röhl has agreed a deal to join RB Salzburg and still has two years left on his contract at Ibrox. He arrived last October, took over from Russell Martin, and found Rangers sixth in the league before leading them into the title race and then falling short toward the end of last season.

The move leaves Rangers changing course again after one manager steadied the league position and another has now lined up a move away. Lawrence Shankland was the first signing in the rebuild, joining from Hearts on a two-year deal with the option of a further 12 months after a free move triggered by a clause in his deal.

Shankland scored 20 goals in all competitions last season, and McInnes now takes over the same club where he helped shape that forward’s recent success. Rangers need the new appointment settled before training resumes next week, with the rebuild already underway and the handover from Röhl to McInnes moving fast.
