Inverness Airport closed until approximately 4pm after ongoing incident
Inverness Airport was closed on June 14 because of an ongoing incident, with the airport saying it would stay shut until approximately 4pm. Passengers were told to contact their airline for the latest flight updates before travelling.
The closure message was posted on X at around 1:51pm, and Highlands & Islands Airports published the same notice. Airport website information then showed arrival flights delayed from 2pm to 5:15pm and departures delayed from now until 5:55pm.
Inverness Airport delays
The website listing showed one flight from Luton to Inverness Airport at 5:30pm as on time, while the EasyJet flight to Luton at 6:25pm was the only departure listed as on time. That left most afternoon services tied to the closure window, with passengers relying on airline updates rather than the airport schedule alone.
Highlands & Islands Airports manages the airport, which serves as a UK international airport. The cause of the closure was described only as an ongoing incident, and the airport did not identify it in the message posted on X.
Airline updates before travel
For passengers already planning to travel, the practical instruction was clear: check with the airline first. With arrivals listed as delayed through 5:15pm and departures through 5:55pm, the airport’s own status board became the most immediate source for changes affecting afternoon journeys.
The 4pm reopening target also created a narrow window for recovery rather than a full return to normal service. Even after the closure period, the airport’s timetable showed that some flights were still due to operate later in the day.
