Brandon Aubrey backs Harry Kane for NFL kicker role

harry kane has another high-level vote of confidence for life after soccer. Brandon Aubrey says the England captain has the talent to become an NFL kicker, and he put the warning plainly: Kane may be too old by the time he leaves the European game.

Aubrey’s $28 million standard

Aubrey is not speaking from the outside. The Dallas Cowboys kicker signed a record $28 million contract and became the highest-paid kicker in NFL history, giving his view on Kane real weight.

He called Kane a “fantastic striker of the ball” and said, “Continue to score goals. He's got a chance to be one of the all-time elite soccer soccer players or football players, I guess. He's a fantastic striker of the ball, so that'll age gracefully as a kicker, and he he has the talent if he wanted to do that. It's not quite as exciting as being a England's top goal scorer, so please keep going uh as long as you can.”

Kane’s path to July 33

Kane has often spoken about wanting to become an NFL kicker after he hangs up his boots in Europe. That idea now has support from someone who made a similar switch, even if Aubrey’s own route was unusual: drafted in 2017, one year in the MLS, a season in the USL, then a spell away from sport as a software engineer for three years before he trained to be a kicker.

“But yeah, all jokes aside, he can definitely do it whenever he wanted to,” Aubrey said. He added the catch, “But hopefully he's not too old. I have a feeling he'll be a little bit on the older side when he's done with soccer and NFL teams don't like to see uh too old of kickers to start.” Kane turns 33 in July, and he is currently in discussions over a potential contract extension at the Allianz Arena.

England and the World Cup

For now, Kane’s next priority stays in soccer. He is focused on leading Thomas Tuchel’s England side at the 2026 World Cup, which keeps the NFL idea on the back burner even as one of the league’s top kickers says the talent is there.

That leaves Aubrey’s endorsement as both praise and warning: Kane may have the striking technique for the job, but the clock is still running on how long NFL teams would view him as a realistic kicker.
