Kensington Palace Shares Charles Iii Trooping Photos of 3 Children
Kensington Palace shared behind-the-scenes photographs of Charles Iii Trooping the Colour preparations as Catherine, the Princess of Wales, left Buckingham Palace with Prince William and their three children. The images showed the family inside the palace quadrangle before the procession, with guards moving out to join the carriages.
Catherine, who was serving as Colonel of the Irish Guards, rode in an Ascot Landau carriage with Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. Prince William rode on horseback as Colonel of the Welsh Guards, while King Charles joined him in stroking the horses ridden by the Royal Colonels.
Buckingham Palace quadrangle
The photographs offered a rare look inside Buckingham Palace's quadrangle, where the Royal Standard was flying above the building. The images captured the moment just before the departure for Trooping the Colour, when senior royals moved from the palace into the procession.
That detail also showed the ceremony's military structure in plain view. Princess Anne was Colonel of the Blues and Royals, Prince Edward was Colonel of the Scots Guards, and the horses ridden by the Royal Colonels were Darby, Noble and Sir John.
Catherine and Prince William
Catherine wore a baby blue outfit by Catherine Walker, a hat by Philip Treacy and the Irish Guards brooch. Prince William rode Darby, Princess Anne rode Noble and Prince Edward rode Sir John, giving the procession a clear sequence of royal military roles rather than a single family appearance.
The King has travelled to Horse Guards Parade in a carriage ever since the second Trooping the Colour of his reign. For readers following the ceremony, the photographs now place Catherine, William and their children inside the same departure moment seen from within the palace rather than from the parade route.
Horse Guards Parade
The next visible step in the ceremony is the Royal Family's arrival at Horse Guards Parade, where the procession takes shape around the royal colonels and their mounted escorts. The released images leave a rare record of the Buckingham Palace departure itself, with the children in the carriage and the senior royals already in ceremonial positions.
