Tom Holland Names Owen Cooper as Spider-Man Successor

Tom Holland says owen cooper should be the next Spider-Man. In a Tuesday interview with Esquire UK, Holland said he would love to see the 16-year-old Adolescence breakout take over the role in the future.

“Owen Cooper would be awesome,” Holland said, adding that Cooper is “super-talented and the talk of the town right now.” He also said the Spider-Man part works best with “a fresh face,” a view that pushes the franchise conversation toward a younger lead rather than another established name.

Cooper’s Awards Run

Cooper’s profile is already larger than most 16-year-olds in film and television. He won an Emmy, a Golden Globe, a BAFTA TV Award, and an Actor Award for Adolescence, then made his film debut in Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights.

He is also set to appear in Tom Ford’s next film, Cry to Heaven. That puts him on a short list of young performers moving from breakout television into prestige film work, which is exactly the kind of crossover that keeps studio casting conversations moving before a franchise opening lands.

Holland’s Marvel Exit Point

Holland said he completed his Marvel contract with 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home and described himself as “on the fence” about making a fourth Spider-Man film. He also said it is “pretty tough to get a producing credit on future movies,” which makes any long-term role behind the scenes harder to lock in even if he stays near the franchise.

Still, Holland said he would like to remain involved whenever his tenure ends. “In the way that Robert Downey was such a mentor for me in my first three movies, I would love to be that person for whoever is next,” he said, drawing a direct line from his own handoff era to the one that could follow him.

31 July And The Next Turn

Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be released in cinemas on 31 July, giving Holland one more major release before any real succession conversation turns from suggestion to decision. For now, his public nod gives Cooper a clear seat at the table and signals that the next Spider-Man discussion may start with a 16-year-old rather than a veteran replacement search.
