Roblox Select launches globally with age checks and chat limits
Roblox Select launched globally today, and roblox select now sits alongside Kids accounts in a system that automatically sorts users by age. The biggest change for families is the gatekeeping: Kids accounts start with the strictest settings, while older users get more access only after age checks.

Leonardo S., a Brazilian-based father and member of Roblox's Global Parent Council, said, "These new accounts provide more peace of mind by pairing built-in safeguards with tools that help parents stay connected to their child’s experience".
He also said, "This combination makes it much easier as parents to stay engaged and guide their children's digital journey as they grow."
Roblox Kids and Select rules
Roblox Kids accounts have the strictest standard settings in place, including disabling chat, while Roblox Select accounts give older kids and younger teens access to slightly more mature content.
Chat settings gradually unlock for Roblox Select accounts, but protections and parental controls remain in place.
Users who have not completed an age check cannot chat on Roblox, regardless of age, and accounts meant for users 16 or older require an age check based on ID verification or secure Facial Age Estimation.
What users and developers face
At launch, Roblox Moments will not be available for Kids or Select accounts, and social media links will only be shareable or viewable by age-checked users 16 or older.
The launch follows an earlier rollout in Australia, Indonesia, the Netherlands, and New Zealand, which suggests Roblox has already tested the account split before making it global.
For developers, the tighter catalog rules mean games for younger users now face extra checks before they reach Kids or Select accounts, including ID verification, two-factor authentication, and either a Roblox subscription or a one-time refundable publishing fee.
Games available to Kids or Select accounts also undergo real-time evaluations to analyze gameplay and assess reports from users 16 and older, which gives Roblox another layer of screening after publication.
The unresolved issue is how smoothly families will move through age checks, since access to chat and social links now depends on that step for older users.
