Ross Colton Traded to Predators in Deal With Avalanche
ross colton is on the move again, and the Nashville Predators moved quickly to add both a veteran forward and goaltending depth from Colorado on June 16, 2026. Nashville received Colton and Isak Posch while sending draft capital and Magnus Chrona the other way.
Colton Adds 24 Points
Colton brought a 24-point season with him, including nine goals and 15 assists in 73 games for the Avalanche in 2025-26. He also finished at plus-9, put 153 shots on goal and delivered 159 hits, third-most on Colorado.
That blend is the reason Nashville targeted him. The trade gives the Predators a forward who has scored 89 goals over six NHL seasons and already reached a career-high 40 points in 2023-24.
Posch Bolsters Nashville
Posch gives Nashville another goaltender after spending parts of the past two seasons with the Colorado Eagles. In 2025-26, he went 15-8-4 with two shutouts, a 2.78 goals-against average and an.891 save percentage, and he was named to the 2026 AHL All-Star Classic for the Pacific Division.
Chris MacFarland said, "We are very excited to add Ross Colton to our forward mix." He also called Colton "a versatile, two-way winger who will add sandpaper and grit into our middle six group," and described Posch as "a talented young netminder who was selected to play in the AHL All-Star game this past year" and "a big goaltender who will add to our already impressive goalie depth."
Draft Picks To Colorado
Nashville paid with its own third-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft, Colorado’s own third-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft that had already been transferred to Nashville, and goaltender Magnus Chrona. The deal also changes how both clubs handle the next two draft cycles, with Nashville adding two players now and Colorado adding picks and Chrona in return.
For Colton, the move ends a season in which he logged 24 points in 73 games and continues a career that began when Tampa Bay selected him in the fourth round of the 2016 NHL Draft, 118th overall. He debuted on Feb. 24, 2021, scored the game-winning goal in a 3-0 win over Carolina, won the Stanley Cup with Tampa Bay in the 2020-21 season, and has 28 points in 75 career Stanley Cup Playoff games.
