Tyson Fury Sets Big-Money Condition for Moses Itauma Fight

Tyson Fury said money would be the only thing that tempts him into a moses itauma fight. The heavyweight said there would be no point otherwise, because Itauma does not have a belt. Fury still left the door open, but only on his terms.

Fury Puts Price on Itauma

“Nothing, but obviously money [would tempt me to fight Itauma]” Fury told iFL TV. He then made the calculation plain: “For sure, I am a prizefighter, show me the money and I will do the job, but at the end of the day, if there is no big money involved, what is the point? He doesn’t have a belt, he doesn’t have nothing, what is it for?”

He sharpened the point even further by saying, “I don’t need to fight f---ing kids, do you know what I mean? Listen, Moses is a good kid, he is a great boxer and everything, brilliant, but unless its going to big money, why would I want to fight Moses for f--- all?” The message was simple: the fight is not about a ranking or a title shot, but about whether the purse is large enough to justify it.

Moses Itauma's Fast Rise

Itauma has 14 wins and 12 of them have come inside the distance. He recently knocked out Jermain Franklin for the first time in his career, and before that stopped Dillian Whyte in the first round. Those results have kept him in the conversation around Fury, even after Fury had previously been against the idea of facing him.

Fury and Itauma have also shared the ring before in previous Fury training camps, so the matchup is not some distant fantasy. Fury had still been saying he does not need to fight him, which is why the money condition now matters more than the names attached to the bout.

Joshua Fight and August Plans

Fury is already signed to fight Anthony Joshua later this year, and he said he wants to fight once more in August before that bout. Nelson Hysa has been rumored as the opponent for that slot, which gives Fury a possible route to stay active without jumping straight into Itauma.

That leaves Itauma in a familiar spot for a rising heavyweight: close enough to the biggest names to be discussed, but not yet enough to force a fight on sporting grounds alone. For now, Fury has drawn a line around the matchup and made the price the first part of the negotiation.
