Commodore Callback 8020 Blocks Social Apps on a Flip Phone
Commodore's commodore callback 8020 is a flip phone that runs Sailfish OS and leaves out social media, browsers, email, and Slack. The company is pitching it as a smaller target for people who want modern app support without the usual attention traps.

Christian Simpson said Commodore is positioning itself as a digital minimalist brand. He also said, “A lot of people are trying to go back to slightly simpler tech and maybe trying to ditch their smartphone on the weekend.”
The phone can still run Android apps like Uber, WhatsApp, and Spotify. That keeps it useful for basic travel, messaging, and audio without opening the door to the services Commodore has left out.
Callback 8020 hardware choices
The Callback 8020 uses a MediaTek Helio G81 processor and includes a 32-GB microSD card. The front screen shows the date, time, and battery status, but no notifications.
Commodore also built in a removable battery, an FM radio tuner, a headphone jack, and an audiophile-grade digital-to-analog converter. It ships with custom-designed in-ear monitors from FiiO, and the front LED can alert users when notifications come in.
Five colors, $500 floor
The handset comes in five colors. The standard options are SX Silver, ProtoPET White, BASIC Beige, and the translucent Starlight Edition.
The Founder's Edition is a PVD gold version with a 24-karat gold-plated Commodore button. The standard colors start at $500.
The phone also leans hard on nostalgia. It uses T9 typing for messages, adds a predictive text helper, offers voice transcription for speech-to-text messaging, and includes C64 games, Snake, chiptune ringtones, and a retro camcorder mode with procedurally generated filters.
One detail still hanging over the launch is the gap between the stated $500 starting price and the $499 figure tied to the announcement, which leaves buyers waiting on the exact retail price for each version.
