Ralf Little Leaves Death In Paradise After Four Years
Ralf Little’s death in paradise run ended with the finale of series 13 in 2024, closing a four-year stretch as DI Neville Parker. He said his time on Saint Marie had come to an end after the series wrapped his character’s story with Florence Cassell.
Little joined in 2020 and fronted the detective drama through dozens of episodes and several Christmas specials. He also made a brief appearance in Beyond Paradise, but the main story finished on Saint Marie, where Neville sailed away into a new life with Florence.
Little’s 2020 arrival
2020 gave the show a new lead when Little took over from Ardal O’Hanlon’s DI Jack Mooney. He told viewers at the time that coming into a series beloved by millions was a huge responsibility, and he said the response to his interpretation of Neville had been overwhelming.
“I want to say an enormous thank you to everyone who watched and supported the show when I arrived four-and-a-half years ago,” he said. He also called it “an absolute privilege and a pleasure to bring Neville Parker to all of you and to share his quite profound journey with you.”
Neville and Florence
Series 13 ended with Neville leaving Saint Marie to begin a new life with Florence Cassell, played by Josephine Jobert. Little said, “My time on Saint Marie has come to an end – what an end! New adventures await Neville, and he got to sail away into the sunset with his best friend. Who knows what happens for them next!”
He added that the last series was always going to be his last series, and that he and the and Red Planet all agreed on the departure. He also said Neville’s story deserved to be finished, his journey deserved to be completed, and he deserved a nice happy ending.
drama turnover
2011 was the year Death in Paradise debuted on One, and the series has grown into one of the ’s most successful drama shows. Little became the latest in a line of lead detectives that has also included Ben Miller, Kris Marshall and Don Gilet, which is how the production has kept the format moving without breaking its identity.
Four years in the lead role is a substantial stretch for a show built around turnover at the top, and Little’s exit gives the series a clean handover rather than a loose end. For viewers, the useful takeaway is simple: Neville’s chapter is closed, Florence is part of that ending, and the show moves on with its current lead detective already in place.
