Prosecutors Seek Patrick Clancy 911 Call in Lindsay Clancy Case

Prosecutors in the lindsay clancy case want jurors to hear Patrick Clancy’s 911 call, arguing it helps show the three children were killed deliberately. Lindsay Clancy, 35, does not deny killing her three children and has argued she was suffering from postpartum psychosis when she strangled them and threw herself from a second-story window.

The motion was filed ahead of this summer’s scheduled murder trial. Prosecutors said the call captures Patrick Clancy discovering each child in the home’s basement, and they say the recording is important because it shows how the exercise bands were positioned around the children’s necks.

Patrick Clancy 911 Call

Patrick Clancy found the defendant and immediately called 911. He stayed on the phone after first responders arrived, and the call recorded the moments he discovered each of the children in the basement. Prosecutors want the jury to hear it because, in their telling, the recording goes to how the children were found and how the bands were tied.

On the call, Patrick Clancy can be heard yelling, “She killed the kids!” Prosecutors say that spontaneous reaction fits their theory that the bands were wrapped around each child’s neck in a way that was not tied or knotted. They argued the recording helps show whether the bands were tied at all, which they say matters to whether the acts were deliberate.

Commonwealth’s Theory

The Commonwealth said the evidence is probative of whether Lindsay Clancy tied the bands around each child’s neck and walked away, or whether she manually pulled the bands around their necks until they died. Prosecutors said that distinction goes to the deliberateness of the acts and to the claim of extreme atrocity and cruelty.

Patrick Clancy told police and the grand jury that he believed the band was tied with a knot at the back of Cora’s neck and the same for Callan. He said he believed the bands were looped like you would tie a shoelace but came off easily. He also said the band on Dawson was tighter and that he had to pull it over Dawson’s head.

Duxbury House Viewing

Prosecutors also filed a separate motion asking that jurors be brought to view three locations, including the Duxbury house where the children were killed. The property was sold to a third party in January 2024, and at a hearing in May prosecutors said the current homeowner objects to the viewing.

The Commonwealth proposed limiting access to the house to only the attorneys, jury, and judge. Prosecutors also said crime scene photos and videos do not provide a complete picture of the residence, leaving the court to decide whether jurors will see the basement and other locations in person before the summer trial.
