Valve has set the steam machine release date for this summer after first pointing buyers to the first half of the year and then to 2026. The update gives would-be buyers a narrower window than before. Pierre-Loup Griffais said Valve does not have exact details to share yet.

Griffais said, “We don't have exact details about the timeline to share today,” and added, “And we're hard at work on trying to get them out the door. I think we are definitely expecting to roll out some news soon about that, but in general, I think things are going well.”
That leaves buyers with a timeline, but not a shipping date. Valve first announced the Steam Machine eight months before this article was written, then moved from the first half of the year to 2026 before shifting back to summer shipping.
SteamOS beta and review units
Valve rolled out a beta update to SteamOS over the weekend that included initial support for upcoming Steam Machine hardware. Reviewers and content creators are also receiving review units of the Steam Machine and Steam Frame, and the review embargo is said to lift on 23 June.
A reservation queue system could be next. A Steam update code discovery in May suggested buyers may join a waiting list and receive an email invitation when stock becomes available.
Reservations and June timing
That would fit the broader pattern around Valve's recent hardware rollout. Valve launched the Steam Controller in early May without the console itself, and it increased the price of the Steam Deck OLED in May by more than 40 per cent, from £479 to £649 for the 512GB model and from £569 to £779 for the 1TB model.
The remaining gap is pricing for the Steam Machine itself. Valve has not revealed that figure, so anyone waiting to buy this summer still has to watch for the reservation details that appear to be coming soon.
