Wake County closes offices for June 19th Holiday in Triangle

Wake County will close its offices, animal center and libraries on the june 19th holiday Friday, June 19, while parks and waste centers stay open across the Triangle. Raleigh will also shut its administrative offices for the holiday, but police and fire departments will keep operating.

The closures come as Triangle residents commemorate the end of slavery in the United States. Local banks, post offices, libraries and government offices will be closed, and the U.S. Postal Service will close all of its post offices nationwide and will not deliver mail.

Postal Service and banks

For people waiting on mail or planning a bank visit, the holiday closes two of the region's most routine services at once. Banks with a presence in North Carolina, including Wells Fargo and Bank of America, will not open to customers in observance of the national holiday.

FedEx and UPS plan to operate on Friday, June 19. That leaves package delivery available even as postal counters and mail delivery pause for the day.

Wake County and Raleigh

Wake County said on its website that its offices, animal center and libraries will be closed on Juneteenth. County parks and waste centers will remain open, giving residents some services while other public-facing offices are shut.

Raleigh said its administrative offices will be the main offices it shuts down for the holiday. The city said the closures will not affect emergency services, including police and fire departments.

Stores on Juneteenth

Several supermarkets plan to welcome customers on Juneteenth, and the report says it checked government websites and contacted more than a dozen major grocery chains. It could be best to call ahead to check whether a store's pharmacy is open before making the trip.

For Triangle residents, the practical takeaway is simple: handle banking, mailing and government-office errands before Friday, June 19, unless the stop is one of the places that stays open.
