Matt Ingram joins West Brom on two-year deal

Matt Ingram has joined West Bromwich Albion on a two-year contract after leaving Oxford United. The goalkeeper arrives for an undisclosed fee and will compete for the number one spot next season.

Ingram, 32, said: "It's a massive club with big ambition," after completing the move. He added: "I know last year wasn't the season anyone expected, but for me growing up, this was a Premier League club and it's an offer too good to turn down."

His path to West Brom has been short but uneven. Ingram joined Oxford from Hull City in 2024, signed a new two-year deal in the summer of 2025, and then left after Oxford were relegated to League One at the end of the last campaign.

West Bromwich Albion and James Morrison

The move gives West Brom another goalkeeper option after a season that ended 21st in the Championship, four points clear of the relegation zone. James Morrison was named permanent boss in April after Ryan Mason and Eric Ramsay were sacked, and Ingram now arrives into a squad that already includes Max O'Leary and Josh Griffiths.

Ingram made only one Championship appearance for Oxford, but he did play three FA Cup ties and three League Cup ties. That mix leaves West Brom with a clear choice next season: use him as a genuine challenger for the shirt or keep the competition between him, O'Leary and Griffiths tight through the campaign.

Oxford United exit

The complication is the speed of the change. Ingram committed to Oxford for another two years in the summer of 2025, yet the club’s relegation at the end of the last campaign ended that spell before it really got going.

For West Brom, the deal adds experience without forcing a guaranteed starter into the line-up. For Ingram, it opens a direct fight for the role he said he wanted, and whether he moves ahead of O'Leary or Griffiths is the next decision that matters.
