Sergio de Larrea Heads to Mavericks in Lakers Knicks Mavericks Suns Trade

The Lakers Knicks Mavericks Suns trade sent Sergio de Larrea to the Dallas Mavericks after the New York Knicks moved out of the first round during Tuesday’s NBA Draft. Cameron Carr landed with the Los Angeles Lakers, and Koa Peat went to the Phoenix Suns at No. 30.

De Larrea’s stock was built on production, not projection. The 20-year-old averaged 9.7 points, 3.7 assists and 3.0 rebounds per game for Valencia in the 2025-26 campaign, and he hit 40.7 percent of his three-pointers in Liga ACB play.

Knicks Exit the First Round

New York began the night with the No. 24 pick, then moved into the second round after trades with the Los Angeles Lakers, Dallas Mavericks and Phoenix Suns. That sequence changed the rights attached to the pick and shifted three prospects into new landing spots by the end of Tuesday’s draft.

Sergio de Larrea was announced as a member of the Knicks during Tuesday’s draft but will instead head to the Mavericks. That flip is the clearest sign of how fast the board moved once the trade framework came together.

De Larrea’s Valencia Profile

Valencia got a useful guard season out of De Larrea before the draft shuffle. He helped lead Valencia to the Spanish ACB playoffs, and Bleacher Report’s Jonathan Wasserman listed Bogdan Bogdanović as a pro comparison while pointing to consecutive years of accurate three-point shooting and strong playmaking rates.

Those numbers explain why Dallas ended up with a perimeter shooter who can handle the ball and hit from deep. For the Mavericks, the move adds a 20-year-old whose efficiency at 40.7 percent from three stood out in Liga ACB play.

What Changed for Dallas

Cameron Carr went to the Lakers, and the Phoenix Suns ended up with Koa Peat at No. 30. The trade did not leave New York with a first-rounder, but it did reshape the draft-night path for all four teams involved and handed Dallas the player who had briefly been announced for the Knicks.

What draft assets each team exchanged in the four-team trade is not fully detailed, but the result is clear: the Knicks moved back, the Mavericks gained de Larrea, the Lakers got Carr and the Suns closed with Peat at No. 30.
