Kadeem Harris has joined Gillingham after leaving Salford City, giving the club a 33-year-old wide option with recent League Two mileage. He arrives after 27 games last season and a four-goal return, so Gillingham add a player who has already been tested in the division.

Gillingham add Harris

The move brings Harris into Gillingham’s squad after his spell at Salford City ended at the close of last season. He left when his contract expired, so the switch comes as a free transfer rather than a deal struck while he was still tied to another club.

Harris said, “I have met all the staff, they have been really welcoming. The stadium is lovely and I am looking forward to getting started. I know the manager well, I played with him for a season. I know Dobbo [techincal director, Richard Dobson] too and we've all got a really good relationship.”

Salford City to Gillingham

Those connections matter because Harris is not arriving cold. He played under Gareth Ainsworth at Wycombe and knows Richard Dobson as well, which gives Gillingham a familiar fit in a squad move that needed an experienced winger rather than a long bedding-in period.

His recent work rate is clear enough. Harris played 27 games for Salford City last season, scored four goals, and also faced Gillingham twice. His last appearance for Salford came at Wembley, where he came off the bench in the 3-0 loss to Notts County in the League Two play-off final.

Harris's route back

At 33, Harris has already built a long route through the game. He started at Wycombe, became their youngest ever player, moved to Cardiff City in 2012, spent seven years there, then had three seasons at Sheffield Wednesday before spells in Ukraine with Metalist Kharkiv, with several Turkish sides, and later Carlisle United.

For Gillingham, the practical gain is straightforward: a winger with league experience, a recent goal return, and familiarity with the club’s staff. For Harris, the next step is to settle into a squad where he already knows the manager and technical director and to turn that short move into a regular role.
