Ross McCrorie is back at Rangers news after Bristol City accepted an undisclosed offer from the Ibrox club and he signed a three-year deal with the option of a further year. The move gives Rangers a Scotland international who knows the club, and it hands Derek McInnes his first signing since taking charge.
McCrorie Chooses Rangers
The 28-year-old said the return was personal as well as professional. “It is a dream come true to come back up the road to the team I support,” he said. McCrorie added: “I am not that little kid who was at Rangers back in the day. I have changed a lot character-wise and player-wise.”
He then set out the aim of the move. “I feel like I am ready now and I want to come back here and win trophies.” That is the line Rangers have bought into after McCrorie spent time away from the club to build his game elsewhere.
From Rangers Academy To Bristol City
McCrorie began in the Rangers academy and made his debut in September 2017, going on to feature in more than 50 games before leaving for Aberdeen. He spent three seasons there under McInnes, then moved to Ashton Gate in the summer of 2023 for a reported £2m fee.
At Bristol City, he made 89 appearances and played 41 times last season. He was used regularly at right-back, but he can also operate across the defence and has filled a midfield role when needed.
McInnes Gets His First Signing
McInnes knows exactly what he is getting. “Ross is someone I signed for Aberdeen from Rangers, and at that time he wanted to go out and prove himself, which I think says a lot for him,” he said. “He has developed and improved as a player, he has got that added experience, he is a full international now and he knows the club inside out.”
McCrorie has been capped twice for Scotland and was included in the squad for Euro 2024. He will join Rangers with the number two jersey available after James Tavernier moved on following 11 years at the club, and the deal closes one loop while opening another: a homecoming built on experience rather than promise.
