Police said 7-year-old Harbe Nagi was found dead in Menands on Tuesday after he was reported missing Sunday afternoon in the missing child Albany NY case. Investigators believed he wandered away from a family gathering on Park Drive, and the search ended after three days.
The 911 call came in around 4:23 p.m. Sunday, about 10 minutes after he was last seen. Police used helicopters, drones, K9s and other resources, and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation helped in the search.
Adam Alharbi on Tuesday morning
Adam Alharbi, Harbe Nagi’s uncle, wrote in a social media post Tuesday morning that the child had died and thanked those who helped search for him. His message came before police said the search had ended in Menands.
DEC Forest Ranger Charles Kabrehl said Monday afternoon that an ice cream truck was used to try to lure Harbe back home. Police also said he was known to wander and explore, and that he had a strong interest in water, the outdoors and climbing.
Park Drive and Menands
Park Drive was closed between Wards Lane and Mountain View while police continued their investigation. That closure kept the search area restricted as investigators worked through the scene after the child was found.
Police said the circumstances around Harbe Nagi’s death remain under investigation. The unanswered question now is how he died, and the search for that answer is the part of the case still moving forward.
