TSN says the Toronto Maple Leafs are in contract talks with unrestricted free agent forward Colton Sissons, and nothing has been finalized. That leaves a veteran centre with 756 career games at the center of a roster decision that could still go either way.
Colton Sissons And Toronto Maple Leafs
Darren Dreger reported the talks involving Sissons and the Toronto Maple Leafs. The 32-year-old is a 6-foot-1 centre coming off a seven-year, $20 million contract with a $2.86 million cap hit, which frames why any new deal will be judged through fit as much as cost.
He brings 101 goals and 232 points in 756 career games split between the Nashville Predators and Vegas Golden Knights. For a team looking at a free-agent addition, that gives the Leafs a player with a long track record rather than a short-term gamble.
Vegas Golden Knights Production
Last season, Sissons had six goals and 11 points in 66 games with the Vegas Golden Knights. He added two goals and eight points in 22 playoff games before the Golden Knights were eliminated in the Stanley Cup Final, so the recent sample is recent enough to matter and modest enough to leave room for interpretation.
His path to this point has been steady. Drafted 50th overall by the Predators in 2012, he later moved with Jeremy Lauzon from the Nashville Predators in June of 2025 in exchange for Nicolas Hague and a draft pick, then reached free agency with another stop now under discussion.
What The Leafs Are Deciding
The Leafs are weighing a veteran centre who can be measured by a full body of work, not just one season. Sissons' age, his career totals, and his recent playoff usage all point to a player built for depth and responsibility, which is likely why the talks have moved this far.
But the hard part is still there: a talk is not a transaction. Until the sides turn that discussion into a signed agreement, Sissons remains available, and the Leafs remain one step short of adding him.
