Lance Stroll Aston Martin penalties at the British Grand Prix came in threes, with the Aston Martin driver handed three separate five-second time penalties after six track limits infringements at Silverstone. He finished 19th, one place behind Fernando Alonso, in a race where Aston Martin had already qualified on the final row for the fourth race in succession.
Silverstone turns costly
Stroll’s first five-second penalty came on Lap 33 after he breached track limits at Turn 18. Two laps later, he picked up another for an offence at Turn 9, then received a third on Lap 42 for a breach at Turn 15.
That sequence covered three further track limits offences in nine laps after he had already reached the three-strike limit. From that point, every further breach carried a five-second hit, and Stroll kept adding them as the race wore on.
FIA applies the rule
The stewards said the standard penalty for a sixth track limits infringement during the race is a further 5 second time penalty. In their report on the final breach, they wrote, "It was evident that Car 18 left the track at Turn 15 on Lap 42 without a justifiable reason."
They added, "This was the driver’s sixth track limits infringement of the race." The report then stated, "The standard penalty for a sixth track limits infringement during the race is a further 5 second time penalty." It finished: "The Stewards therefore imposed the standard penalty."
Aston Martin’s rough weekend
The result left Stroll 19th at Silverstone and kept Aston Martin in a difficult run that has seen the team qualify on the final row of the grid for the fourth race in succession. Alonso’s one-place advantage underlined how far back the team was running on the day, even before the penalties accumulated.
For Stroll, the race was not just about the finish position. He had six infringements, three penalties, and a rules sequence that moved from warning threshold to punishment in quick order. The only open point after the race is how much the penalties altered his final classified result beyond 19th place.
