An sells gear as 38.000 campers reach Tomorrowland Dreamville

Tomorrowland camping opened in Rumst with 38.000 campers heading into Dreamville, and the first rush brought a small market of last-minute gear to the entrance. Near the driveway, An and other neighbors were selling secondhand camping equipment as arrivals tried to get set before the first festival weekend.

Dreamville’s 11 uur opening

At 11 uur, festivalgoers were already lined up from around the world, looking for tents, mattresses, chairs, fans and cool boxes before they moved on to Dreamville. An said, "Bij ons kunnen ze op valreep nog kampeermateriaal aanschaffen" and added, "We hebben campinglichtjes, powerbanks, waaiertjes, tenten, matrassen, stoeltjes en ook koelboxen."

She also said, "Er is geen filter nodig, want iedereen zit hier in de partyvibe," which fits the scene at the entrance: a temporary supply chain built by neighbors for a crowd that still needed basics in voorlopig nog loden hitte. Lukas put the practical side plainly: "Ik wil nog even genieten van de rust en de schaduw achter deze banner. Straks is het vechten voor een plaatsje op de camping en moet ik de tent opzetten. Dan is het werken natuurlijk (lacht)."

Angelique Riebbels returns

Angelique Riebbels said this was her 18e keer op Tomorrowland, and that she had been coming since 2008. She added that her last camping visit was 4 jaar geleden, a gap that makes the current demand for late purchases look less like impulse shopping and more like a habit of people who know how much preparation the site still requires.

"Dat is even lastig, maar ik kijk er enorm naar uit. Dit is mijn 18e keer op Tomorrowland, ik kom al sinds 2008. 4 jaar geleden was mijn laatste keer op de camping. Ik zei toen: nooit meer! Maar kijk, ik ben hier terug," she said after being dropped off at the parking.

Fireworks off the schedule

Tomorrowland cannot set off fireworks during the first festival weekend because of drought and code orange, and Jonas called that a pity after the fire on the Mainstage last year. The line from the ground is simple: the party mood is intact, but one of the festival’s most visible effects is off the table, which pushes the show toward whatever substitute the organizers choose instead.

"Na de brand vorig jaar op de Mainstage begrijp ik dat wel, maar het is spijtig," Jonas said. Ine from Brugge said, "Maar Tomorrowland is wel hét festival van heel de wereld dus ik ga ervan uit dat ze goeie alternatieven zullen hebben," while a friend said he had heard extra confetti would be used to compensate for the fireworks ban.

For campers, that leaves a very practical order of operations: buy what is missing near Dreamville, get the tent up, and expect a different kind of opening spectacle this weekend. The gear stall solves the first problem; the festival still has to prove what replaces the fireworks.
