For a player known coming out of Michigan as a strong run blocker, the receiving production stood out. Pro Football Focus noted that Barner developed into a solid receiving threat with Seattle while still bringing value in the run game, giving Mike Macdonald’s club another useful piece in a balanced offense.
Barner’s place among NFL tight ends
Barner’s six touchdown receptions were tied for eighth among all tight ends in 2025. That is a useful benchmark for a player who finished second on the Seahawks with 52 catches and showed he could contribute in the passing game without losing the physical edge that defined his college profile.
He also stayed effective as a blocker. Pro Football Focus said Barner ranked fourth among all tight ends with 35 positively graded run-blocking plays, reinforcing that his value goes beyond the box score. For Seattle, that combination matters. A tight end who can block, catch passes, and score in high-leverage moments gives an offense more flexibility.

The Seahawks’ 2025 season already marked a major step forward. They went 14-3, reached the divisional playoffs, beat the Rams in the NFC title game, and then finished the job with a Super Bowl victory over New England. In a strong NFC West that sent three teams to the playoffs and featured three clubs with at least 12 wins, Seattle still found a way to separate itself.
Barner’s Super Bowl LX touchdown was part of that finish. It did not define the season by itself, but it did underline a larger point: Seattle had enough depth and enough reliable role players to win on the biggest stage.
