Gable Steveson has confirmed that his second UFC appearance will come against Sean Sharaf at Crypto.com UFC 331, a quick step forward for a 26-year-old heavyweight prospect still early in his MMA learning curve.
Steveson has only four MMA fights and five professional fights overall, yet the pace of his rise is no surprise given the scale he has already handled in amateur wrestling. The heavyweight division can be shallow, and when a fighter arrives with his profile, the UFC can move him quickly.
Steveson: learning fast after July debut
In July, Steveson defeated Elisha Ellison at UFC 329 by first-round stoppage, and he said the experience was a valuable first look at life on the biggest stage. “I think the fight went great for a first time on the big stage,” he said, before adding that there were still plenty of details to fix.
That is the key point here. Steveson is not pretending he has it all figured out. He described himself as someone who wants to “soak up everything like a sponge” and keep improving, saying the main lesson was to stay more active, judge when to engage and when to get out, and avoid getting caught by anything “sloppy or cheap.”

Sean Sharaf is the next test in a career that is being accelerated rather than eased in. Steveson said he wants to keep moving forward and keep his opponents under pressure, which fits the way he says he models parts of his style on Daniel Cormier.
He also said he is learning from Jon Jones and other coaches as he adapts to mixed martial arts, and that progress is coming faster than expected. “With guys like Jon in my corner, I think it’s coming faster than we ever expected,” Steveson said, while also stressing the importance of staying “in that fire” and “in that cage.”
That is the real story around UFC 331. Steveson is still a novice by MMA standards, but he is being treated like a heavyweight who can rise quickly. The question is not whether he has talent.
