Police placed a cordon around the area and evacuated properties in the immediate vicinity while the bomb disposal response was under way. Officers had first visited a property on the road after reports that a nearby parked car contained offensive weapons and other suspicious items.

One resident told the they had seen armed officers and sniffer dogs in the area. The presence of police and specialist teams turned a reported vehicle search into a wider safety operation for the homes closest to the scene.

Dorset Police also had a presence in Park Homer Drive in Wimborne, which it said was connected to the Poole incident. That link suggests the work in Poole was not an isolated search, but part of a wider police response stretching beyond one street.

No arrests have been made, and Dorset Police said it was continuing to investigate the incident. For residents cleared from nearby homes, the immediate danger was reduced once the device was made safe, but the police inquiry remains open over what officers found and why the second address was involved.
