Martin St-Louis and His Childhood Perception of Montreal

St-Louis, who hails from Laval, admits that he didn’t have many opportunities to connect with Montreal before taking on a prominent role in the province. He noted that his previous career did not lead him into the city much.

A Mother’s Warning about Montreal’s Dangers

During his conversation with host Ève-Marie Lortie, St-Louis shared how his mother influenced his perception of the city. He recounted, “When I was young, my mother convinced me that the city was dangerous. I stayed in Laval, and she said, ‘Don’t go to Montreal, it’s dangerous.’”

This warning resonated with him during his teenage years. As a 16 or 17-year-old, he often avoided the city due to the fears instilled by his mother. “I was a suburban kid. Cities scared me,” he explained.

Coming to Terms with the City

Despite his initial apprehension, St-Louis is now beginning to appreciate Montreal. He mentioned that he frequently enjoys dinners out, explores various neighborhoods, and often strolls around the vibrant Sainte-Catherine Street. His experiences have led him to realize, “It’s not so dangerous after all.”
