Charlotte Hawkins Tears Up Backstage at ITV Show After Harsh Snub

Charlotte Hawkins recently shared an emotional moment from her time on the popular ITV show, Good Morning Britain. She recounted how she broke down in tears after being voted off the hit dance competition, Strictly Come Dancing.

Emotional Memories from Strictly Come Dancing

During a joint interview with her colleagues Susanna Reid and Kate Garraway, Hawkins opened up about her experience on the show. In 2017, she was the third contestant eliminated, alongside professional dancer Brendan Cole. This disappointment stayed with her, especially upon returning to work.

Kate Garraway recalled the moment when she checked on Hawkins. Initially, Hawkins stated she was “fine.” However, moments later, she burst into tears, prompting her colleagues to empathize with her situation. “We totally knew what she was going through,” Garraway reflected.

Personal Journeys and Struggles

Both Garraway and Reid have their own connections to the competition. Garraway participated in the fifth series, finishing seventh with partner Anton du Beke. In contrast, Reid reached the final in 2013 with partner Kevin Clifton, though they lost to Abby Clancy and Aljaz Skorjanec.

Beyond her television career, Hawkins has also addressed personal tragedies. She opened up about the passing of her father, Frank, in 2015. He died at the age of 78 following a three-year struggle with motor neurone disease (MND). In his memory, she became a patron of the MND Association, advocating for better treatment options and research.

Advocacy for Motor Neurone Disease Awareness

Hawkins highlighted the dire need for advancements in MND treatments. She noted, “When people get that diagnosis, it’s a death sentence. It’s horrific that in this day and age, there aren’t treatments that can help people.” Her conversations with experts give her hope that significant progress is forthcoming.

Continuing her father’s legacy, Hawkins also aims to honor rugby player Doddie Weir, who passed away in 2022, and Rob Burrow, who died in June. Burrow’s efforts helped raise millions for an MND centre in Leeds, set to open next summer. “It’s over to you now, to pick up that baton, to make sure that his work is not forgotten,” Hawkins remarked at Burrow’s memorial.
