On November 4, a significant educational partnership was launched in Chongqing, China. The Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications (CQUPT) collaborated with Russia’s Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) to establish a joint university. This initiative marks the first China-Russia joint educational institution in western China and Russia’s Far East.

The newly formed establishment is named the Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications-Far Eastern Federal University Joint Institute. It stands out as the only officially recognized institution of its kind in the region. This collaboration signifies an important advancement in higher education between China and Russia.

Currently, the institute has started accepting students for its Internet of Things Engineering program, with 100 students admitted in the inaugural year.

International Collaboration and Student Exchange

Wang Yang, the dean of the joint institute, explained the educational model. Primarily, students will study at CQUPT, with Russian faculty members traveling to China for teaching roles. This approach aims to leverage the resources and academic expertise from both universities.

Moreover, the institute will enroll Chinese and Russian students together, promoting collaborative learning. Chinese students will also have opportunities for exchange programs in Russia, broadening their international experience.

Future Goals and Impact

The institute aims to develop professionals who are oriented towards international collaboration. It plans to integrate the technological expertise of both institutions, focusing on Digital Intelligence Technology. The involvement of Chinese and Russian enterprises in educational processes is expected to enhance training outcomes.

Graduates from the program will have priority in employment within fields such as China-Russia communications and technology cooperation, thus contributing to enhanced bilateral trade and technology exchange.

Broader Educational Initiatives

According to the Chongqing Municipal Education Commission, there are currently six joint educational institutions and projects in the city. Notably, the Chongqing Tchaikovsky Conservatory of Music represents another collaboration with the prestigious Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory. These initiatives facilitate the exchange of nearly 1,000 students from China and Russia each year, strengthening cultural and educational bonds between the two nations.
