Guy Fieri’s Leg Injury Forces Wheelchair Use After On-Set Fall
Celebrity chef Guy Fieri is sidelined this Thanksgiving due to a serious leg injury. Known for his vibrant personality on Food Network, he will oversee holiday preparations from a wheelchair.
Injury Details
Fieri sustained a severe injury while filming his new show, “Flavor Town Food Fight.” He fell down a set of stairs, resulting in a complete tear of his right quadriceps muscle. During an interview with FOX News, Fieri described the incident as an unusual injury. “You normally tear that muscle at your tendon or the tendon tears off the bone, but this was right in the center,” he explained.
Emergency Surgery and Recovery
Following the fall, Fieri required emergency surgery. He is currently advised to avoid putting any weight on his injured leg for eight weeks. “I can’t walk on it for eight weeks,” he confirmed, emphasizing the seriousness of his condition.
Thanksgiving Plans
This year, Fieri will not be cooking for his family and friends. Instead, he is entrusting the Thanksgiving feast to his sons, Hunter and Ryder, and his nephew, Jules. He stated, “They all know how to cook. So, it’s going to be an adventure.” Fieri will supervise the preparations from his wheelchair, assisting them as they prepare for approximately 40 guests.
Accident Description
Fieri described the accident, saying his limbs unexpectedly twisted in awkward directions. “One foot went forward and the other foot got caught on the threshold,” he recalled, humorously noting, “I looked like I was probably doing the splits.” His doctor found the type of injury particularly astounding.
Outlook and Rehabilitation
At 57, Fieri is focused on his recovery. He acknowledges that regaining full mobility will require time and rehabilitation. He expressed enthusiasm about the process, saying, “I want to get after it as fast as possible.”
Family Support
His son Ryder is already stepping up to take on cooking duties. Ryder texted his father, “I guess all the training you’ve given me… is my time to shine.” Fieri expressed his pride in his son’s initiative.
As he spends the holiday at his ranch in Santa Rosa, California, Fieri remains optimistic about his recovery and future culinary adventures.
